Magnificent Jewel Auctions This Fall Featured Phenomenal Color Diamonds

Magnificent Jewel Auctions This Fall Featured Phenomenal Color Diamonds

Christie’s and Sotheby’s recently hosted their traditional fall magnificent jewels auctions in Geneva on November 12 and 13, respectively. Although lots with fancy color diamonds numbered fewer compared to previous auctions, fancy color diamonds and signed jewels once again were among the top lots for both auction houses. Below, you’ll discover a few of the spectacular color diamonds that sold at both auctions, with prices noted in US dollars.

Spectacular Color Diamond Lots from Christie’s Magnificent Jewels

A diamond ring designed by Moussaieff set with a 7.03 carats, VVS2, fancy deep blue rectangular-cut diamond fetched $11.6 million or $1.6 million per carat.

Another highlight was a 32.49-carat fancy light purplish pink, rectangular-cut, VS2 diamond mounted in a ring that sold for more than $2.5 million or $78,000 per carat.

A ring designed by Graff with an exquisite, 8.96 carat fancy intense yellow cut-cornered rectangular step-cut diamond and triangular-shaped diamonds fetched nearly $263,000.

Among the other beautiful color diamonds was an incredible pair of earrings with brown-yellow cut-cornered step-cut diamonds of 15.03 and 15.01 carats, respectively, offset with brilliant-cut diamonds that fetched nearly $220,000.

Exquisite Color Diamond Lots from Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels

One of Sotheby’s blockbusters was a pendant set with a 6.03 carats pear-shaped fancy intense purple-pink diamond and three smaller white diamonds. This striking jewel sold for $3.35 million.

An attractive 14.69-carat heart-shaped, very light blue diamond pendant more than doubled its $600,000 high estimate and fetched nearly $1.3 million or $88,000 per carat. The diamond was accompanied by a GIA report stating its color improvability. If the buyer was a daring professional risk-taker, chances are high that the diamond will reappear recut on the market in a few months – smaller but with improved color.

Sotheby’s also presented two other distinctive rings.

A gorgeous ring set with a brilliant-cut fancy yellow diamond weighing 7.44 carats framed by brilliant-cut diamonds with yellow and brown hues sold for $87,500.

And the other remarkable ring set with a marquise-shaped fancy deep brown-yellow diamond weighing 5.46 carats and tapered baguette diamond shoulders fetched $35,000.

And finally, we must mention a small pink rose-cut diamond set in a fascinating and delicate Art Nouveau enamel and diamond brooch framing an unusual medieval scene frieze with a natural pearl drop. Created in 1895 by Lalique, this stunning brooch fetched slightly less than $70,000.
