Lucara Recovers 4.77 ct Blue Diamond

(IDEX Online News) – Fancy color diamond lovers will be happy to hear that two blue diamonds were recently mined in Botswana. Lucara recovered a 4.77 carats blue diamond and a 0.2 carats blue diamond at its Karowe mine.

The company did not provide any further details about the diamonds, only stating they are investigating different options for the sale of the stones.

Usually exceptional diamonds are auctioned to achieve the highest possible price. The company currently auctions all its Karowe production.

This is not the first time Karowe produces blue diamonds. Lucara recently sold a 9.46-carat blue diamond recovered from the mine for $4.515 million, or $ 477,272.73 per carat (p/c).

“The recovery of the 4.77 carat blue diamond brings the total number of blue diamonds recovered in the past few months to four," said William Lamb, CEO of Lucara.

Polished blue diamonds fetch very high prices at auctions in recent years. In November, an exceptionally rare Fancy Deep blue, Flawless 10.48 carat diamond sold for $10.86 million, or $1,036,273 p/c, at Sotheby’s.
