Alrosa Plans to Dominate Color Diamond Market
The market for fancy color diamonds is relatively small given the inherent limited supply and is now dominated by Rio Tinto and De Beers. There could be some changes in the future.
Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond producer by volume is planning to become also a major player for polished color diamonds.
“We think we will be able to integrate into this segment and even dominate it (...) As Alrosa is the largest diamond miner, it is reasonable to expect that today we are the largest miner of colored rough diamonds as well”, a company spokesperson told Rapaport News Sunday.
