Alrosa Unearthed First Colored Rough Diamond at its New Verkhne-Munskoye Deposit in Yakutia.

Russian diamond miner Alrosa has unearthed the first color rough diamond at its new Verkhne-Munskoye deposit in Yakutia. The stone is a bright yellow gem-quality diamond weighing 17.44 carats and measuring 18x20x9 mm. “This is the first rough diamond with bright color found at the Verkhne-Munskoye since it was launched in 2018,” said Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa.

Global resources of color rough stones that can be cut and polished into fancy color diamonds are very scarce. According to GIA, only one in 10,000 diamonds has a fancy color. That is why some beautiful fancy color diamonds may be valued ten times higher than colorless ones.  For more information read the Alrosa press release.
