Marylin's Moon of Baroda is Now on View in Christie's L.A. Showroom

Christie’s is set to auction an iconic diamond necklace that Marilyn Monroe wore for the premiere of her 1953 movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. 

Estimated at $500,000 to $750,000, the 24.04-carat pear shaped, fancy yellow, VS2-clarity Moon of Baroda which originated from the famous Galconda mine was first documented in the 15th century as part of the collection of the Gaekwads of Baroda, the ruling family of India. 

In the 1950s, the Moon of Baroda was acquired by Meyer Rosenbaum, the president of Meyer Jewelry Company. Rosenbaum loaned it to Marylin Monroe for the publicity purposes surrounding Howard Hawks’ movie. The diamond became as famous as the unforgettable song of the movie  “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend". Henceforth fancy yellow pear-cut diamonds were very much coveted!

Los Angeles movie and diamonds fans will have the chance to admire this legendary and historical stone. The diamond will goes on display in Christie’s showroom, Oct. 16-20, before being auctioned off Nov. 27 at the Magnificent Jewels Hong Kong Sale.
