[Idex Online] Merlin Diamonds has recovered a number of rough diamonds from operations at the Merlin diamond mine, including a 35.26-carat brown diamond. The stone is the fifth-largest diamond discovered in Australia, the miner said. It also uncovered a 14.6-carat brown diamond as well as a number of smaller white diamonds.
The diamonds recovered "continue to demonstrate the potential for large diamonds" at the Merlin mine.
Merlin Diamonds, formerly North Australian Diamonds, acquired the mine from Rio Tinto in 2004. It is the source of Australia’s largest diamond, a 104.73-carat stone.
