Rio Tinto Becomes Only Owner of Diavik Diamond Mine

Rio Tinto Becomes Only Owner of Diavik Diamond Mine

Rio Tinto has operated Diavik Diamond Mine, located in the Northwest Territories of Canada,  since production started back in 2003. Rio Tinto has now acquired the 40% share previously held by Dominion Diamond Mines in Diavik, becoming the mine's sole owner.

Diavik’s production is expected to end in 2025, but meanwhile the demand for their high quality stones continues strong. In 2020, the mine produced 6.2 million carats of rough diamonds.
