Vivid Yellow Shines at Auction
Christie’s Geneva spring sale featured several beautiful jewels. We noticed two dazzling natural color diamonds.
A 21.97 carats Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond with Internally Flawless clarity, signed by Graff fetched $5.5 Million ($268,555 per carat). It was given a pre-sale price of $3.8 million - $4.5 million. Diamonds with a strong saturated color represent only a tiny percentage of all natural diamonds. This scarcity makes natural color highly valuable and explains such record price levels.
Another notable diamond sold that evening was a 8.52 carats Fancy Intense Purplish Pink, VVS1, diamond. It was estimated by Christie’s to sell at a price between $3.5 million to $5.0 million and ended up selling for $6,2 million or $739.000 per carat.
Those record prices confirm the increase in demand for natural color diamonds.
