Langerman Diamonds Achieves RJC Certified Member Status

We are delighted to announce that Langerman Diamonds is now an RJC Certified Member.

The Responsible Jewellery Council sets standards for responsible conduct across the jewellery and watch industry. Achieving certification followed an independent assessment of the way we work, from our internal procedures to our responsibilities within the wider diamond supply chain.

For Langerman Diamonds, this is both a proud moment and a natural continuation of how we have approached our work for more than half a century. Knowledge, careful selection and openness with our clients have always sat at the heart of the business. RJC certification gives those values the backing of an internationally recognised industry standard and supports our wider approach to sustainability.

“For more than half a century, trust, expertise and openness have shaped the way we work. RJC certification gives our clients independent reassurance that these values are reflected in our business, and a clear framework for us to continue improving.”

Stefan Langerman, CEO of Langerman Diamonds

What is the Responsible Jewellery Council?

Founded in 2005, the Responsible Jewellery Council is a global standards organisation for the jewellery and watch industry. Its membership now includes more than 2,000 businesses working across the supply chain, from mining, cutting and polishing to manufacturing, trading and retail.

Despite their very different roles, RJC members work towards a common goal: a jewellery supply chain that acts responsibly towards people and the planet.

The RJC supports this goal through standards covering business ethics, human rights, working conditions, responsible sourcing and environmental performance. Companies must undergo an independent assessment before they can achieve Certified Member status.

What Does Being RJC Certified Mean?

To become RJC certified, Langerman Diamonds had to demonstrate that its relevant systems and working practices meet the requirements of the RJC Code of Practices.

The Code examines a broad range of subjects, including:

  • Business ethics and compliance
  • Human rights and labour rights
  • Supply chain due diligence
  • Responsible working conditions
  • Environmental management
  • Accurate product disclosure
  • Anti-money laundering and anti-corruption controls
  • Relationships with communities and other stakeholders

An RJC-approved independent auditor assesses how the company handles these areas. Certification therefore goes beyond a statement of good intentions: it requires evidence that suitable procedures exist and operate within the business.

Becoming an RJC Certified Member also means more than simply joining the organisation. Langerman Diamonds has completed the certification process and undergone an assessment against the applicable parts of the RJC Code of Practices.

What Does RJC Certified Status Mean for Our Customers?

Buying a rare natural color diamond often involves questions that extend beyond its appearance. A client may want to understand whether its color is natural, how specialists have graded it, what documentation accompanies it and who they can trust to provide clear answers.

Our RJC Certified Member status offers further reassurance about the company behind the diamond. It shows that an independent auditor has assessed our relevant practices against a recognised jewellery industry standard.

The certification supports the principles that guide our everyday work:

  • Acting honestly and transparently
  • Carrying out appropriate supply chain checks
  • Giving clients clear information about our diamonds
  • Respecting human rights and responsible working practices
  • Managing our environmental and social responsibilities
  • Reviewing our procedures as expectations and standards develop

The certification applies to Langerman Diamonds as a company. It does not mean that the RJC has individually certified every diamond in our collection.

Individual stones may instead have reports from independent gemmological laboratories. These reports concern the characteristics of the diamond, whereas RJC certification examines the relevant practices and systems of the business.

RJC Certification and Continuous Improvement

Responsible business practice does not end when a certificate is issued.

Standards change. Regulations develop. Businesses learn more about their supply chains and find better ways to manage their responsibilities. RJC Certified Members must maintain the systems assessed during certification and complete the required reassessment process to retain their status.

We see certification as part of that continuing work. It gives us a clear standard against which to review our practices while encouraging further progress over time.
