"Apollo & Artemis" the Most Expensive Pair of Earrings

"The Apollo and Artemis Diamonds" will be the stars of next Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels Auction. The two breathtaking and exceptional stones, perfectly matched in size, cut and tonality are currently mounted as a spectacular pair of earrings, but will be offered as two separate lots at Sotheby's Spring Sale at the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva, on May 16.

The Apollo Blue is a Fancy Vivid Blue, 14.54 carats, Internally Flawless, type IIB diamond estimated CHF38,125,000 – 50,160,000 ($38,000,000–50,000,000) and the Artemis Pink is a Fancy Intense Pink, 16.00 carats, VVS2 clarity, type IIA diamond estimated CHF12,545,000 – 18,060,000 ($12,500,000–18,000,000).

Both pear-cutted diamonds are amongst the purest -chemically speaking- of all diamonds with an alluring limpidity. The pair of mismatched diamond earrings, named for the most revered and powerful of Olympian deities are estimated to fetch as much as $68 million.

They are, says David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division, “by far the most important pair of earrings ever offered at auction.”
